Maarten Vrolijk (1966), born in Oss and currently living and working in The Netherlands, studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven. Even before his graduation in 1990, he started manufacturing artworks in various disciplines.
From textile and glass processing to painting, Vrolijk has mastered many ways of creating art. He considers it important to elaborate on the simple, unequivocal nature of a product. Vrolijk explained, “Even as a child, I was amazed by nature and what they call everyday things- the things that seemed to just pass other by, but which to me became lifelong fascinations”. His art language is unusual because it consciously plays with shapes, colours and materials in an uncontrived way.; they should also make people’s everyday lives that bit more beautiful through the many little details that evoke the unexpected. His works have been collected and exhibited in several renowned international museums including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Groninger Museum.
