Christina de Korte

Overview

Christina de Korte

Christina de Korte (*1997, Meliskerke, The Netherlands) is an emerging artist whose work blends her deep passion for collecting with a vibrant explosion of colors and textures. She holds a BA in Fine Arts from the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht and a degree in Language and Culture Studies from Utrecht University, both of which shape her multidisciplinary practice. De Korte is currently based in Utrecht, but her artistic journey has taken her across the world, including an artist residency in Cairo, Egypt.

Cultural Collecting and Visual Storytelling
Her upbringing as the child of a traveler instilled in her a fascination with objects, souvenirs, and cultural stories from around the globe. These collections form the basis of her work, beginning with her photography project Thuis (Dutch for "home") and evolving into larger, immersive installations that resemble textile markets full of colors and cultural references. Her works often include elements like Vlisco textiles and market photographs, creating layered narratives that blend personal memory with broader cultural exploration.

A Fusion of Art and Research
De Korte's artistic practice is deeply intertwined with her academic research, particularly in non-Western art forms, religion, and textile history. She spent time in Egypt learning the local dialect and studying regional artistic techniques. This research reinforces her creative output, resulting in a thoughtful exploration of cultural exchange and storytelling through vibrant, detailed art.
