Sina Dyks

Sina Dyks (1995, The Netherlands) is a textile artist whose practice bridges art, interior space, and sensory experience. Working from her studio in the Netherlands, Dyks creates immersive woven works using recycled PET yarns, combining sustainability with a refined, contemporary aesthetic. She graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (KABK), where her research laid the foundation for her ongoing exploration of how visual stimuli influence human perception, emotion, and behavior.
Color, Craft, and Sensory Experience
For Dyks, color is never merely decorative—it is an active force that shapes how we feel and function within a space. Rooted in color theory and informed by her research into the psychological and physiological effects of stimuli, her work explores how color, texture, and form interact with the human body and mind.
Each piece is conceived as an atmospheric intervention. Through layered compositions, tactile surfaces, and carefully balanced palettes, Dyks creates textile works that evoke introspection and subtly shift the energy of a space. Her approach reflects a deep belief that when color is used with intention, it can restore balance, warmth, and vitality—transforming not only interiors, but also the emotional experience of those within them.
Textile as Transformation
Dyks’ practice extends beyond the creation of autonomous artworks. Her textiles are designed to exist in dialogue with architecture and interior environments, functioning as integral elements rather than decorative additions. Working intuitively and site-specifically, she develops pieces that respond to light, materiality, proportion, and the presence of those who inhabit a space.
This philosophy has evolved into what she calls The Elevate Home Experience—a personal and immersive approach in which art and interior converge. In this process, textile becomes a catalyst for transformation: spaces soften, deepen, and take on a renewed sense of identity. Dyks describes this as a “1 + 1 = 3 effect,” where the combination of artwork and environment generates something entirely new—a subtle yet powerful shift in atmosphere.
Pushing Boundaries in Textile Innovation
Technically, Dyks continuously challenges the conventions of textile art. She incorporates self-spun threads, recycled materials, and experimental weaving techniques to expand the possibilities of the medium. Her large-scale works often unfold like organic landscapes—fluid, layered, and in constant visual movement—inviting viewers into a sensory dialogue.
Her practice is driven by a fascination with how perception can be altered through material and structure. By manipulating depth, rhythm, and color intensity, she creates works that engage both visually and physically, encouraging a heightened awareness of one’s surroundings.
Research and Conceptual Foundation
Dyks’ artistic language originates in her thesis research, which examined how sensory stimuli—such as color, texture, and movement—affect human DNA expression, behavior, and emotional states. This inquiry continues to inform her work today.
She views color as a powerful connective tool: not only an aesthetic choice, but a medium that can influence energy, mood, and consciousness. Her textiles are therefore not simply objects to be observed, but experiences that invite reflection and interaction—encouraging viewers to consider their own relationship with their environment.
Exhibitions and Recognition
Dyks’ work has been exhibited internationally, with presentations in Paris, Milan, and New York, alongside commissioned projects in Gibraltar and Rome. Her growing recognition reflects both her technical innovation and her ability to translate complex emotional and sensory concepts into compelling visual forms.
