The "art of weaving"

Mina Abouzahra

Mina Abouzahra (*Netherlands) is a Dutch-Moroccan designer and furniture maker whose work beautifully fuses Moroccan craftsmanship with Dutch design aesthetics. Born to Moroccan immigrants, she grew up navigating two cultures, a theme that runs deeply through her creative work. Abouzahra is known for her passion for the art of weaving, a craft she honed through extensive research into Moroccan traditions and techniques. She is particularly committed to supporting rural Moroccan female artisans, working closely with weaving cooperatives to ensure they receive fair compensation and recognition for their skills.

Her design studio, founded in 2013, emphasizes collaboration and ethical practices, bringing traditional Moroccan crafts into contemporary design. Abouzahra’s innovative approach to weaving has garnered international attention, and she is celebrated for her ability to bring age-old techniques into the modern design world.

In 2023, she completed a transformative year-long residency at a women’s weaving cooperative in South Morocco, where she developed a new collection in collaboration with prominent designers like Edith van Berkel and Bertjan Pot.
