Hilde Trip

Hilde Trip is a Dutch artist whose work is rooted in a close and sustained relationship with nature. Born in Drenthe and based in the Netherlands, her practice is informed by her early experience of rural landscapes, which continues to shape her approach to material and form. Through her work, she explores how natural elements can be transformed into structured, enduring compositions.
Central to Trip’s practice is the use of organic materials collected from her surroundings. Working with elements such as bark, leaves, seeds, grasses, and feathers, she constructs intricate wall-based works that preserve and reinterpret the natural world. These materials are carefully selected and arranged, allowing their inherent qualities—texture, colour, and form—to remain visible within the final composition.
Her work is characterized by a balance between organic irregularity and formal structure. Through repetitive and meditative processes, Trip arranges natural elements into rhythmic patterns and geometric configurations. This approach creates a tension between the spontaneity of nature and the precision of human intervention, resulting in compositions that feel both ordered and alive.
Themes of time and transformation are central to her work. By working with materials that are inherently fragile and subject to change, she reflects on cycles of growth, decay, and renewal. Her pieces capture a moment within these processes, preserving it within a stable form while maintaining a connection to its temporal origin.
Trip’s practice can be understood as a dialogue between preservation and transformation. By elevating ephemeral materials into lasting objects, she invites a reconsideration of how nature is observed, experienced, and valued. Her work offers a space for reflection, where material, process, and environment converge.
