Overview

On 17 January 2027, Hendrik and Paula Kerstens open the doors to their Amsterdam studio. Rademakers Gallery invites you to meet the artists and discover a selection of photographic works available to acquire.

Their practice brings the visual language of seventeenth-century Dutch portraiture into the present. Carefully composed light and precise detail give the photographs a painterly presence, while everyday materials become unexpected headdresses and garments. The resulting images combine formal elegance with subtle humour, exploring the relationship between historical imagery and contemporary life.

The selection brings together works including Bag, Napkin and Book, alongside recent photographs such as Coif and Bonnet. Together, they trace the evolution of an artistic practice developed over several decades.

What began with Hendrik photographing his daughter has grown into a close collaboration. Paula, an artist and art historian, now co-directs their practice, contributing research and ideas to the development of the images.

Visit between 13.00 and 16.00 to view the works in the setting where they are created and speak with Hendrik and Paula about their process. Everyone is welcome. You can register using the RSVP button below.
