Sofie Aaldering

Sofie Aaldering (1998) is an emerging voice in contemporary textile art, based in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Her practice is rooted in a meticulous exploration of materiality, where delicate fabrics are transformed into sculptural, expressive forms. She graduated with honors from the University of the Arts Utrecht in 2021, and her work continues to gain recognition for its distinctive visual language and technical refinement. In 2024, she was featured on the front cover of ELLE Decoration as one of the artists to watch, marking an important moment in her early career.

Working primarily with materials such as tulle and mesh, Aaldering investigates the tension between fragility and strength. Through a process of manipulation, layering, and repetition, she alters these translucent textiles into dense, tactile compositions that challenge their inherent lightness. Her works occupy a space between object and sculpture, expanding the traditional boundaries of textile practice.
