Maarten Vrolijk

Maarten Vrolijk (b. 1966, Oss, The Netherlands) is an Amsterdam-based artist and designer whose practice spans more than 25 years. His work is distinguished by a playful use of colour, form and material, transforming familiar objects and natural elements into sculptural works that are both refined and approachable.
Rather than seeking complexity for its own sake, Vrolijk focuses on the beauty of everyday materials and the small details that can bring surprise and delight. His works balance craftsmanship with experimentation, resulting in objects that feel both intuitive and carefully considered.
Nature has been a constant source of inspiration throughout his life. Reflecting on his childhood, Vrolijk recalls being captivated by the seasonal transformation of a cherry tree outside his home - from its bare branches in winter to a canopy of pink blossom in spring, followed by vibrant red cherries in summer. These observations continue to inform his fascination with colour, growth and the rhythms of the natural world.
