Dirk Jensma

Dirk Jensma
(1961, Gaasterland, The Netherlands) lives and works in Sóller, Mallorca.
Dirk Jensma is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is rooted in precision, repetition, and the meditative logic of pattern. Before fully dedicating himself to painting, Jensma built an international career as a makeup artist in the fashion industry, working for leading publications such as Vogue and ELLE and collaborating with global brands including Chanel and Fendi. Throughout his years of extensive travel, he used every spare moment to draw and embroider, developing a deep fascination for working meticulously on non-living, often rigid materials.
For the past eight years, Jensma has lived on Mallorca, where he is now a full-time artist. Embroidery has been a defining influence on his visual language for more than fifteen years. Drawn to the confinement and rhythm of the grid, he pursues a form of systematic perfection expressed through pattern and color. His paintings unfold as hypnotic structures—mazes of straight lines, shifting sequences, and echoing motifs that feel guided by an internal, almost organic order. The works reflect an intense dialogue between control and intuition, where disciplined craftsmanship becomes an immersive visual experience.
Jensma’s practice explores the tension between human rigor and natural rhythm, transforming meticulous repetition into paintings that feel both serene and charged with quiet intensity.
