Onno Adriaanse

Onno Adriaanse is a Dutch designer and artist whose practice moves fluidly between collectible design, sculpture and functional object. Working at the intersection of art and design, he creates sculptural works that balance architectural clarity with an intuitive sensitivity to material, texture and form.

Central to Adriaanse’s practice is the dialogue between function and artistic expression. Rather than separating object and sculpture, his works inhabit a space where utility becomes secondary to atmosphere, tactility and presence. Benches, seating objects and sculptural forms are approached as autonomous works, defined by strong silhouettes, material honesty and a restrained yet expressive visual language.

His practice is deeply informed by natural structures and organic growth patterns. Curved lines, layered surfaces and tactile finishes recur throughout his work, creating objects that feel both contemporary and timeless. Through a careful balance of mass and softness, Adriaanse develops pieces that carry a strong architectural presence while maintaining an almost meditative calm.

Material plays a central role within his process. Adriaanse works with an emphasis on craftsmanship and physicality, allowing the character of the material to remain visible within the final object. This results in works that reveal both precision and imperfection, combining refined construction with a sense of spontaneity and human touch.

Born in 1991, Adriaanse belongs to a younger generation of Dutch designers redefining the boundaries between contemporary art and collectible design. His works reflect a growing international interest in collectible objects that move beyond strict functionality and instead engage with emotion, space and sculptural experience.
