Onno Adriaanse

Onno Adriaanse is a Dutch designer whose work explores the relationship between material, form, and sensory experience. Based in Eindhoven, he established his studio in 2016 after graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven. His practice operates at the intersection of art and design, where sculptural objects and interior applications are developed through a strong focus on material and process.
Central to Adriaanse’s work is a hands-on, material-driven approach. Each project begins with an investigation into the inherent qualities of a material—its texture, structure, and behaviour—allowing form to emerge through making rather than predefined design. This process results in works that retain a visible sense of craftsmanship, where the hand of the maker remains present.
His work is deeply influenced by natural processes and landscapes. Drawing from geological formations and organic growth patterns, Adriaanse develops forms that echo the rhythms and structures found in nature. Through this translation, he creates objects that feel both familiar and abstract, balancing precision with a sense of organic development.
Across his practice, there is a consistent emphasis on atmosphere and experience. His objects often extend beyond function, contributing to spatial environments that encourage a slower, more attentive engagement. In this way, his work offers a counterpoint to the speed and immateriality of contemporary life, reconnecting the viewer to material presence and sensory perception.
Hedera Collection
The Hedera collection is inspired by the growth patterns of climbing plants, particularly ivy. Central to the concept is the idea of one form gradually overtaking another, resulting in a visual dialogue between structure and organic expansion. Furniture pieces appear to be enveloped by a secondary layer, raising questions about coexistence, transformation, and autonomy. The collection explores whether these forms remain dependent on their original structure or evolve into independent entities, creating a tension between support and takeover.
Dawn Collection
The Dawn collection is defined by a focus on colour transition and material subtlety. Working with solid oak, Adriaanse introduces a gradual shift in tone, moving from darker hues into a transparent finish. This transition creates a soft visual gradient across the surface, evoking the atmosphere of early morning light. The interplay between colour and material emphasizes the natural qualities of the wood, resulting in objects that are both refined and quietly expressive.
