Biography

Thilde Maria Haukohl Kristensen (1979), also known as Poppykalas, is a visual artist, author and floral designer living and working in Klitmøller, Thy in Denmark. She works with different media, including oil painting, watercolor, pollyfilla, ceramics, fresh, dried, artificial and textile flowers, epoxy and more. In everything she creates the world of flowers are the red thread. There is a vibrant energy in her oil paintings, which she creates from her deep roots in wild nature.

Soft florals

The works of Poppykalas have a significant sensuousness: her oil paintings are soft and smooth enough to eat, and her light watercolors invite you to dream. Both the technique and motive is inspired by Haukohl Kristensen’s grandmother. As floral paintings were traditionally seen as a ‘woman’s work’ (and therefore less important), these pieces invite to enter a world, where femininity, sensitivity and softness is pronounced with pride.
