Overview

Hanne Arends

Hanne Arends is an artist who lives and works in Amsterdam. She completed her education at the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2022 and the Rietveld Academie Amsterdam in 2023, distinguishing herself as the first individual to graduate from both institutions simultaneously. Her artistic journey is deeply influenced by her keen interest in people and societal dynamics. This profound connection to human experiences and societal issues fuels her creative process, enabling her to produce impactful art. Rademakers Gallery is proud to present her latest works, MASKS.

MASKS delves into Hanne's reflections on self-perception and the modern ease of altering one’s appearance. In an era where changes to our visual identity can be made instantly, whether in person or through digital platforms like Instagram or Facebook, the concept of image is ever-changing. Our current societal landscape offers unparalleled ease in modifying our appearance to fit in or get approval. Through MASKS, Hanne poses a critical inquiry: Should there be boundaries to how much we alter our appearance, to prevent a world filled with confusion? Her work invites us to think about our identities in today's world. Each mask is a one-of-a-kind piece, meticulously handcrafted from stoneware. Available in two distinct sizes, the masks are offered at varying price points accordingly.
