If you read this you are gay

24 July - 15 August 2026
Overview

On July 24th 2026, Rademakers Gallery will open a new solo exhibition by Chris Rijk - If you read this you are gay.

Known for his bold and playful approach to ceramics, Chris Rijk combines the rich tradition of Delft Blue pottery with contemporary imagery drawn from queer culture, popular media, and everyday life. Working with classical forms such as plates, vases, and decorative objects, the artist transforms familiar ceramic traditions into a vibrant space for personal expression and social commentary. Through hand-painted motifs and unexpected objects, his works explore themes of identity, desire, masculinity, and consumer culture.

Rijk’s practice moves freely between humor and provocation. By merging traditional craftsmanship with imagery that is explicit, playful, or ironic, he challenges the boundaries between historical craft and contemporary culture. His ceramics become a stage where heritage meets pop culture, and where queer perspectives reshape the visual language of one of the Netherlands’ most iconic artistic traditions.

For this exhibition, Chris Rijk presents a new body of work that continues his exploration of identity and cultural symbolism through ceramic objects that are both intimate and outspoken. At once decorative and subversive, the works reflect on how personal narratives, sexuality, and social norms intersect within contemporary society.

Join us for the Festive Opening on Friday July 24th from 15.00 to 18.00.
